What Is a Brazilian Butt Lift?
A Brazilian butt lift is a buttocks augmentation procedure that reshapes and enhances the size of the buttocks. For this surgical procedure to be performed, fat from other parts of the body is first removed through liposuction. The fat cells are then purified and the best tissues are used for injection into the buttocks at different depths to achieve a natural look and feel.
It is a safe form of cosmetic surgery, as it uses the patient’s own tissue to achieve long-lasting beautiful results. Good candidates for this procedure include those with a flat buttocks, an asymmetrical buttocks, a sagging buttocks, and a small or disproportionate buttocks.
How Is the Procedure Performed?
This procedure takes approximately one and a half to four hours based on different factors, including the number of injection sites, the amount of fat to be removed, and the patient’s desired buttocks shape and size.
A Brazilian butt lift involves three key procedures: fat extraction, fat processing, and fat re-injection. Fat extraction is performed using a procedure known as liposuction. Fat processing involves decanting and/or centrifugation. Fat re-injection, which is the final step, involves numerous fat injections into the upper quadrants of your buttocks. This makes the buttocks appear perky and lifted.
During the fat extraction process, the suction-assisted tumescent liposuction technique is used to extract fat from different parts of the body, including the thighs, hips, waist, back, and stomach. The fat is removed using thin cannulas with very small holes, which allow only the smallest fat particles to be collected. The areas around the buttocks may also be contoured to make it more prominent.
The second step is the processing of the suctioned fat. The fat is purified by decanting and/or centrifugation. Only a small amount of the suctioned fat, often less than 25%, will qualify to be re-injected to the buttocks. Only the best donor fat cells can be re-injected into your buttocks for butt augmentation.
The final step is the injection of fat into the buttocks. This is done through numerous injections using special cannulas. Small amounts are injected at a time and at various depths; this allows the patient to get the highest permanent acceptance (‘take’) rate. The micro-injections are distributed uniformly to achieve a uniform, smooth, and natural buttocks appearance.
The amount of fat injected into each cheek varies greatly from patient to patient. However, patients with a generous fat distribution prior to the surgery being done can expect to get a large amount for each cheek.
How Do I Prepare for a Brazilian Butt Lift Procedure?
There are some measures you ought to take beforehand to avoid any post-surgical complications. Before undergoing the procedure, you should stop using aspirin or any medication containing Aspirin. Aspirin acts as a blood thinner and can cause excessive bruising or bleeding.
You should also quit smoking at least four weeks before and one week after surgery, since nicotine can impair circulation and healing. Furthermore, you should refrain from drinking excess alcohol for a similar duration of time; instead, drink plenty of water before and after the surgery.
What Is the Recovery Period?
The buttocks will swell and experience some bruising following the surgery. These will subside within a few weeks. After the procedure, you should wear a post-surgical garment for four to six weeks on the area.
After the swelling has gone, it will take you at least three months before you can see the actual amount of fat that remains. It will take you around seven to ten days before you can go back to work.
What Can I Expect after the Recovery Period?
Although the results of the Brazilian butt lift vary between patients, common ones include perky, firm, rejuvenated buttocks. You will also have a curvier appearance, with the results likely to last for many years, provided you don’t experience massive weight fluctuations and that you take care of your body.
