What is Facelift?

A facelift, or rhytidectomy, is a surgical procedure that provides effective facial rejuvenation and gives the skin a youthful appeal. A facelift in New York City can shave years off your appearance.

As people get older, the quality and texture of their skin become less elastic and more prone to wrinkling and sagging. The skin’s taut and youthful appeal slowly diminishes over time due to the aging process. Muscle tone is also less visible as one age, which gives the skin a worn look.

A facelift targets common problems linked with aging, including wrinkles, a double chin, and droopy eyelids. It helps recontour the jawline, gives the muscle and skin a tighter quality, and eliminates loose excess skin.

What are the Benefits of Facelift?

For our patients who want to address signs of aging in their lower face and neck and also have considerable sagging of the midface, a facelift is likely the best option. A facelift in New York City can:

  • Contour the jawline
  • Recreate neck definition
  • Smooth deep facial creases
  • Improve the appearance of “marionette” lines and folds around the mouth
  • Produces natural results
  • Tighten up sagging skin
  • Restore lifted cheeks

What’s the First Step?

The first step in getting a Facelift in the NYC area is to schedule an appointment with KH Plastic Surgery. Your initial consultation will center around your goals of rejuvenating your face examination and a discussion of how best to meet your vision.

During your consultation, Dr. Hoschander will discuss a variety of treatment options and together, you will choose the method that results in the best cosmetic and functional outcome for you. Pre and post-operative examples of other similar patients’ facial procedures are often reviewed. The details of the procedure and post-operative care are explained, and any questions you may have are answered. If a plan is confirmed to move forward with surgery, you meet with our patient care coordinator to schedule a surgery date.

Before your surgery, you may have one more pre-operative visit. This visit typically involves a pre-operative history and physical at our office. This visit is performed to assess any medical issues you may have and to ensure that your surgery is conducted most safely. Pre and post-operative instructions are reviewed, and this visit is also an opportunity for you to ask additional questions that may have arisen after your initial consultation.

What to Expect on the Day of Facelift Surgery

There are several ways to perform the facelift, and the best technique for you will be determined during your initial consultation. The traditional technique is done by making an incision from the hairline located in front of your ear, or your temples. The surgeon will extend the incision under your ear and move upward until it reaches back to the hairline at the back of the ear.

Once the incision is completed, fatty tissues, as well as any loose skin, are lifted from the connective tissue and underlying muscle. They are then tightened. This way, sagging and wrinkling are resolved, which results in tighter skin.

There are also cases when the muscles are sutured to stretch the skin more and make it taut. In addition, excess skin is eliminated by pulling the skin back before lifting it upward.

Another means of performing a facelift is through a limited incision. In this method, incisions are shorter, and these are usually made in the hairline up to the front part of your ears. The natural creases in your face tend to conceal these incisions, so they become less noticeable.

After the procedure, skin staples and sutures are used to close the wound and allow it to heal. Then your surgeon will wrap bandages around the wounds after removing any excess blood.

Facelift Recovery

Generally, facelifts can give you a youthful look that may last for 10 years or so. With proper maintenance, a healthy lifestyle, and following your surgeon’s advice, you can expect outstanding results for several years.

How Much Does Facelift Cost in New York City?

The details of a patient’s rhytidectomy surgery affect its overall price. The cost of a Facelift in New York City is determined by anesthesia type, techniques utilized, and many other factors.

Deep Plane Facelift

Widely considered to be a very invasive but effective technique, a Deep Plane Facelift produces the longest-lasting results, with many patients seeing results lasting up to 15 years. Patients will have a successful flattening of the nasolabial fold (a.k.a. the “Smile lines”) with an additional target to the mid-face region, reaching deep tissues and the deeper layers of your facial muscle.

After you’ve been administered intravenous sedation with local anesthesia, Dr. Hoschander will mark the locations on your skin where he intends to make the incisions around the hairline and ears. Dr. Hoschander will then tighten and secure the layer of connective tissue and underlying muscle beneath your skin, releasing strategic ligaments at a deeper level to lift and rejuvenate your appearance, as well as repositioning the underlying layer of muscle and tissue. Once finished, Dr. Hoschander will carefully close the incisions.

During the initial three weeks of your recovery, there will be significant bruising, swelling, and discomfort. You will need to continuously wear a compression garment and neck support during the first few weeks, or until they are removed.

A Mini-Facelift is a slightly modified version of a traditional facelift and helps minimize loose skin around the lower portion of your face. Most plastic surgeons consider mini-facelifts to be less invasive and require less excessive skin removal than other facial surgeries.

Dr. Hoschander will make discreet incisions behind your ears that are easily hidden once healed. Through this incision, your skin and facial muscles are carefully tightened and excess tissue is removed. Your incisions are then closed with a precision suturing technique that reduces tension on your skin and minimizes visible scarring.

This surgery usually lasts less than two hours. You can expect to experience some mild swelling and bruising, but a mini lift has a much less intense recovery when compared to traditional full facelift surgery.

Non-surgical Facelift

A Liquid Facelift uses dermal fillers to artfully sculpt your face by replacing lost volume. Depending on your aesthetic needs, Dr. Hoschander may use a combination of fillers to shape your face and provide you with natural-looking features. A non-surgical facelift is often used to diminish or correct such problems as drooping eyebrows, dark under-eye circles, sunken areas from under the eyes to the cheek, frown lines, flat cheeks, weak chin, jowls, jawline hollows, and scars.

During your treatment, a topical anesthetic will be applied to the targeted areas to numb your face during the treatment, and Dr. Hoschander will plot out the points with tiny marks where he is planning to make the injections. Once the two of you are ready, the specific dermal filler decided upon during your consultation will be used to enhance your target areas.

After the filler is injected, you will be gently massaged to move the filler around so it’s evenly distributed, which will then be assessed and more filler will be added if necessary. Once you are finished, your face will be gently cleaned off and any markings will be removed. You may also receive an ice pack to lightly apply to your face to minimize any excessive swelling or bruising.

The results are practically immediate, revealing themselves within a day or so, and can last up to two years in some patients!
