When the prefix “pseudo” is attached to a word, it indicates that whatever is being identified appears or behaves like something that is recognizable, but only on a superficial level. It essentially gives off a false impression. Understanding this is essential to understanding pseudogynecomastia.

Gynecomastia is a medical condition that causes the male breasts to increase in size due to excess glandular tissue, giving off the appearance of “man boobs.”

Patients with pseudogynecomastia have noticeably enlarged breasts, but this is not due to excess glandular tissue. The primary cause of the issue is the accumulation and retention of excess fat in the chest. Pseudogynecomastia can be effectively treated with liposuction.

Before undergoing surgery to correct any issue, it is paramount that you have the issue properly evaluated and diagnosed to avoid any potential issues with your treatment and results. If you need surgery to correct gynecomastia or pseudogynecomastia, contact KH Plastic Surgery to schedule a consultation.
