At KH Plastic Surgery, Dr. Hoschander frequently treat men with this condition. The surgical procedure involves a combination of liposuction and surgical excision of the glands beneath the nipples. This is an outpatient procedure with little downtime. Patients who undergo the surgery will wear a compression garment for a short period of time following the surgery. This procedure restores physical appearance and confidence for the patients with this problem. Please call today to schedule an appointment with Dr. Hoschander.
Am I a Good Candidate?
Gynecomastia can affect one or both breasts and may go away on its own. But when it doesn’t, surgery certainly helps to address this problem in men. You are recommended to undergo gynecomastia surgery if you are a young male or adult man who has excess tissue on your breast region.
Your Consultation
When you come in for your initial consultation with Dr. Ari S. Hoschander, let him know about your expectations. He will perform a physical examination of your breast to know the best techniques to use for the removal of excess tissue.
Gynecomastia Surgery
The surgical intervention needed to get rid of gynecomastia involves a combination of liposuction and removal of the glandular tissue. However, this is an outpatient procedure and does not require you to stay a night at the hospital.
It starts with the administration of general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation. Then incisions will be made where it will be least inconspicuous such as the nipple or crease of the breast. After that, Dr. Hoschander will remove the glandular tissue and excess fat then close the incisions with sutures.
Recovery and Healing
The recovery process is similar to liposuction where swelling, tenderness and soreness is common. After a week, you may come back to work and physical activities can slowly resume after a few weeks. You may need to wear compression garments for a while. You may also experience loss of sensation which should return after a few months.
