Introduction to Laser Hair Removal

While many people are embracing the “au naturale” look, most people are still very interested in getting rid of body hair. While hair follicles are important for certain areas of your body, such as the hair on your head keeping your head warm and providing cushioning for your skull, or how your eyebrows protect your eyes from moisture and light. Your body hair on the other hand, while it was originally meant to keep your body warm, seems almost redundant with clothing and centralized heating.

If you want a smoother, less hairy body but are tired of constant maintenance, it might be time to take your hair removal to the next level. At KH Plastic Surgery, we offer Laser Hair Removal to patients in New York City & Long Island for a faster, safer, and more comfortable solution!

What’s the First Step?

At KH Plastic Surgery, we’ve mastered the process of laser hair removal and stand behind it as one of the best ways to achieve permanent hair reduction. Before a laser hair removal treatment, patients must abstain from tweezing, waxing, or any other unwanted hair treatment that removes the hair from its root. Patients should shave before their appointment. Laser is attracted to the melanin, or pigment of the hair follicle. The hair must be in its anagen or active growth phase so the night before or morning of your appointment we ask you to please shave the area that you are getting treated. You should also avoid any sun exposure or tanning beds 2 weeks before your laser hair removal treatment.

What to Expect on the Day of Laser Hair Removal

The laser hair removal treatment session involves holding a handpiece against the skin and then administering laser energy to the area. During this painless process, the skin is kept safe from the heat of the laser through controlled cooling.

The amount of time it takes to perform laser hair removal is impacted by the number of treatment areas. Additionally, size plays a factor. Very small precise areas like the upper lip take only minutes to address. The back can take up to an hour.

Laser Hair Removal Recovery

Once the treatment process is complete, you will be able to return to your daily schedule without any need for recovery time or downtime. You may notice a degree of redness or swelling in the treated areas. To help ameliorate these issues, it can be helpful to hold an ice pack to the areas. In the time after the procedure, you should avoid tanning beds and prolonged sun exposure. Apply sunscreen with a proper SPF.

*Laser hair removal treatments can be done once every 4-6 weeks. This is necessary to ensure that the targeted areas are all in the anagen phase during the treatment.

How Much Does Laser Hair Removal Cost in New York City?

The cost of Laser Hair Removal in New York City is dependent on a number of factors. The price of the procedure is primarily affected by the number and size of the treatment areas.
