Many aspects of a breast augmentation can be customized to better suit the needs of the patient. The type of incision used is one of the customizable options that has a significant impact on how the procedure is accomplished and how the results from the procedure will look.

The inframammary incision is the most popular of the available options. The incision is made along the natural fold at the bottom of the breasts where they meet the chest wall This approach is heavily favored because the post-surgical marks produced by the procedure are well hidden within the fold underneath the breast. This approach also does not place the nipple at risk of nerve damage.

It is important that you discuss your options with your doctor. Some incision options are better suited for specific breast types or may offer benefits that fulfill the medical and aesthetic needs of the patient.
